Women's History Month

March is Women's History Month, a time to celebrate the contributions of women from around the world and their impact on cultures and societies.

There are many ways you can celebrate, some of our favorite ways including supporting women-owned businesses, writing a note to a woman who inspires you, or volunteering for a women's nonprofit. Missoula Quilters' Guild believes in the importance of community and empowering and educating a new generation of quilters.

International Women's Day is March 8th this year and our next guild meeting is March 9th. As we watch and follow the turmoil happening on the other side of the globe in Ukraine, it's natural to feel helpless. It's horrifying to see the devastation heaped upon these people on so many levels.

While the people of Ukraine don’t need our quilts, they do need humanitarian support and we’re able to offer that in different ways. Makers are taking action by creating blocks to share, requesting donations to organizations who are able to provide immediate support.

Aurifil Designer Pat Sloan - Quilt Along Page was moved to do just that. Pat approached Aurifil with the idea to create a quilt block. It is a star in a star, signifying strength, made with the colors of the Ukrainian flag.

It's Pat's hope that quilters worldwide will use the pattern to make blocks in support, but more importantly that they will donate funds to support children and their families in Ukraine. Aurifil chose to host the fundraiser with UNICEF in support of Ukraine’s children and their families.

I've donated and downloaded the block pattern to make and hang in a window of my home in support of Ukraine and its' people. For more details and to donate visit: https://ukraine.unicef.org.au/quiltersstandforukraine

And bring your block to our March 9th guild meeting...it would be really nice to take a picture of all of us holding our blocks. Most of all, pray for peace in Ukraine.
